Valley Pastoral Charge is located in the south-eastern corner of Manitoba. Within an hour's drive south of Winnipeg, it offers the best of country life, with the advantages of being close to centers of business, entertainment, post secondary education and shopping. It begins in the Red River corridor and spreads eastward, with easy access to nearby American destinations.

Local communities offer excellent education facilities for young families and year round recreational facilities. Emerson Elementary School offers complete education programs for Grades K-8 in a small school setting where teachers know each student and their families.

Roseau Valley School in Dominion City is a larger K-12 facility with a student population of approximately 250, offering a high standard of education to its students. It has high academic standards as well as active sports programs and drama and music programs. The nearby community of Letellier offers a French Immersion Program in its K-8 school. Access to a well-developed vocational program is also available.

Both Dominion City and Emerson boast excellent summer and winter sports facilities, with approved Red Cross swimming instruction, skating lessons, organized baseball, hockey and curling. Active hockey rinks, curling clubs, swimming pools, golf courses and recreation parks supply year round points of activity for the whole family. Interesting sections of the Trans Canada Trail system wind through parts of our charge.

Emerson has a 20-bed Personal Care Home, a Palliative Care Program, and regular doctor's office hours. Vita also has a 44-bed Personal Care Home, a Palliative Care Program, a 10-bed hospital and a medical clinic staffed by three doctors. Other medical facilities are offered in the nearby communities of Altona, Morris, and St. Pierre.

Boundary Trails Health Center, located between Morden and Winkler, is a new facility providing advanced medical services to southern Manitoba. Local policing is carried out through an RCMP office in Emerson, and the area is capably serviced by volunteer fire and first responder services in both Emerson and Dominion City.

Grocery stores, a pharmacy, and banking facilities are available in Dominion City or Emerson, as well as other essential services. A greater variety of services are also available in nearby communities within a short drive.
